First Generation
1. William HOMEWOOD . Born about 1779 in Crowborough, Sussex, possibly the son of William Homewood and Elizabeth Mew. William died 1865 in Hadlow, age about 86. Occupation: Labourer. On 25/5/1801, when William was age about 22, he married Philadelphia GATES in Rotherfield, Sussex. The marriage record gives William’s surname as Holmwood. Philadelphia was born about 1782 in Rothfield and died 23/4/1854 in Malling, age about 71. They had the following children: (1) Trayton , baptized 25/1/1801 in Rotherfield and died February 1854 in East Peckham. This unusual name comes from an English expression that means “a settlement near trees”. On 21/3/1825, when Trayton was age 24, he married Mary Ann WHITE (abt. 1804-?) in Hadlow, Kent. (2) Moses , baptized 13/3/1803 in Rotherfield and died 1874 in Tonbridge, Kent, age about 71 On 1/11/1828, when Moses was age about 25, he married Ann BEVEN (1797-1868) in Wateringbury, Kent . (3) Obed , baptized 19/5/1805 in Rotherfield and died 1885 in Battle, Sussex, age 79. (4) Isaac , born about 1808 and died 1850 in Malling, Kent. (5) Harriett , born about 1812 in East Peckham and died 1848 in Malling. (6) William [ 2 ] . (7) Mark , baptized 21/4/1816 in East Peckham and died there August 1816. Mark was buried 27/8/1816. (8) Elias , baptized 25/1/1818 in East Peckham. (9) Frederick , baptized 12/9/1819 in East Peckham. (10) Jane , baptized 7/1/1821 in East Peckham. On 11/10/1851, when Jane was age 30, she married Thomas HUMPHREY in Hadlow. (11) Stephen [ 3 ] . (12) Ambrose , baptized 14/4/1823 in East Packham and died in 1846, age about 23.
Second Generation
2. William HOMEWOOD [ Parents ]. Born about 1813 in East Peckham, William died 1875 in Malling, age 63. Occupation: Ag. Labourer. Around 1832, when William was age about 19, he married Eleanor VENESS . Eleanor was born about 1812 in Hadlow and died in 1854, age about 42. They had the following children: (1) Harriett , baptized 20/10/1833 in Hadlow and died 1910 in Chelsea, London, age about 77. (2) Alfred , baptized 12/7/1835 in Hadlow. (3) Maria [ 4 ] . (4) Charity , baptized 3/11/1839 in Hadlow. (5) Stephen [ 5 ] . (6) Ambrose [ 6 ] . (7) William , baptized 14/12/1845 in East Peckham. (8) Frederick [ 7 ] . 3. Stephen HOMEWOOD [ Parents ]. Baptized 27/5/1821 in East Peckham, Stephen died 1862 in Snodland, age about 41. Occupation: Labourer. In 1844, when Stephen was age 22, he married his cousin Ann HOMEWOOD (1822-1854), daughter of Mark HOMEWOOD and Ann BURR . Mark was the brother of William Homewood (1779-1865) above. They had the following children: (1) John Richard , born 1843 in East Peckham and died in 1909, age 65. (2) Henry Hayes , born 1847 in Hadlow and died there in 1858, age 11.
