First Generation
1. William COCHRANE . Born about 1741, William died July 1831, age about 90. He was buried 29/7/1831 inHoly Trinity Church, Westbury-on-Trym, Gloucestershire. Occupation: There’s evidence that he was the Gardener at Hadspen House, Pitcombe, in the late 1770s to mid 1780s. On 11/8/1783, when William was age about 42, he married Christian CURTIS , daughter of John CURTIS and Sarah WINGROVE , in Pitcombe, Somerset. William signed his surname as “Cockram” in the Marriage License, Allegation/Bond and the Register. Christian was born about 1755 in Pitcombe and was baptized 4/1/1756 in Chewton Mendip, Somerset. She died in September 1812, age about 57, and was buried 2/10/1812 in Westbury-on-Trym. They had the following children: (1) James [ 2 ] . (2) John , baptized 9/4/1786 in the Parish Church, Almondsbury, Gloucestershire, and died 6/8/1846 in 60 St Michael’s Hill, Bristol, age given as 62. He was buried 12/8/1846 in St Michael’s, Bristol. Cause of death certified as Pneumonia; Hepatization of the lungs; Hypertrophy of the heart. On 12/7/1831, when John was age about 45, he married Ann BRODIE , a widow, in St Michael’s. Occupation: Publican. (3) Elizabeth , baptized 2/12/1787 in Westbury-on-Trym, and died 9/7/1862 in Park Place, Loughbrook Street, Exeter, age given as 70. Cause of death certified as Apoplexy 12 hours. On 28/10/1830, when Elizabeth was age 42, she married William BABB in St Paul, Bristol. (4) Sarah , baptized 14/2/1790 in St Augustine the Less, Bristol and died about November 1833 in Bath, age 43. She was buried there 3/12/1833. On 2/12/1824, when Sarah was age 34, she married George BAKER in St Bartholomew, Edgbaston, Warwickshire. (5) Christian , born 22/1/1792, baptized 26/2/1792 in St Mary, Bathwick, Somerset, and died 16/11/1876, in Elmsleigh, St John's Road, Clifton, age 84. Cause of death certified as Old age; Haemorrhage from bowels. On 16/6/1825, when Christian was age 33, she married William COLLINGS (died 1839) in Clifton. (6) William , born about May 1793 and baptized 30/6/1793 in St Mary, Bathwick, Somerset. (7) George Nelson , born about 1798 and baptized 28/10/1798 in All Saints, Weston, Somerset. George died about October 1799 and was buried 27/10/1799 in St Peter & St Paul, Kilmersdon, Somerset.
2. James COCHRANE [ Parents ]. Born 1784 in Over, Gloucestershire and baptized 5/12/1784 in St Mary's Parish Church, Almondsbury, Bristol. James died 1/10/1864 in 9 Seward Street, St Luke, Middlesex, age given on the death certificate as 79. Cause of death certified as Diarrhoea. On 18 April 1811, when James was age about 28, he married Elizabeth WHITEHEAD in Christ Church, Greyfriars, Newgate, London. Elizabeth was born about 1787 in Middlesex and died 2/12/1851 in 20 Felton Terrace, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch, age given on death certificate as 64. Cause of death certified as Hepatitis chronic with anusanea 8 weeks; Angina pectoris sudden and fatal. They had the following children: (1) Eliza , born 7/5/1812 in St Luke, Middlesex, and baptized there 29/5/1812. Eliza died 1/12/1883 in 9 Seward Street, Holborn, age about 71. Cause of death certified as Bronchitis 4 days. On 13/12/1830, when Eliza was age about 18, she married John Thomas HEALES (1808-1889), son of Benjamin and Elizabeth HEALES , in St Mary, Newington, Surrey. (2) Louisa , baptized 1/1/1814 in St Luke, Old Street, Finsbury, and died 14/4/1896 in Taunton, Somerset, age about 83. On 17/1/1836, when Louisa was age about 23, she married Benjamin CHANDLER (about 1810-1868) in St Mary, Islington. (3) Ann , born about 1815 and died 8/1/1851 in 7 Priory Terrace, Haggerston, Shoreditch. Cause of death certified as Phthisis pulmonalis 2 years (i.e. Pulmonary tuberculosis. (4) William [ 3 ] . (5) Jane , born about 1821 in St Luke and died 19/6/1904 in 93 Norton Street, Leichardt, Sydney, Australia, age about 83. Jane was buried 21/6/1904 in Rookwood Cemetery, New South Wales, Australia. On 6/4/1849, as age about 27, she married Joseph Frederick PETRIE (1822-1896), son of Thomas PETRIE and Rebecca PIPER , in St Mary, Haggerston. (6) James [ 4 ] . (7) John [ 5 ] . (8) Harriet , born 18/7/1827 and baptized 3/8/1844 in St John the Baptist, Shoreditch. Harriet died 19/5/1901 in Hoxton Old Town, age 73. On 14/9/1881, when Harriet was age 54, she married Benjamin BUTCHER (1810-1897), a City Missionary, in King's Cross Chapel, Pancras. They had no children.
