First Generation (India)
1. James BRADBURY [ Parents ]. Born about 1813 in Boarshurst and baptized 2/1/1814 at St Chad, Saddleworth. James, a soldier, was posted to India around 1836 and died 3/1/1865 in Madras, age given as 50 in the burial record and occupation as Pensioned Bomdardier. Cause of Death given as Dropsy. James was buried 4/1/1865 in Vipery, Washermanpettah Cemetery, Madras. Occupation: Gunner, later Bombardier, in “A” Troop, Horse Artillery. On 24/5/1837, when James was age about 23, he married Catherine WILLIAMS , daughter of John and Catherine WILLIAMS , in St Mark's Church, Bangalore. Born 22/3/1818 in Bangalore, and baptized there 21/6/1821, Catherine died 15/11/1895 in Ellore, Madras, age given in the burial record as 76 years 9 months. Cause of death given as Old Age. Catherine was buried 16/11/1895 in St Andrew's, Chudderghout, Madras. They had the following children: (1) William Henry [ 2 ] . (2) John , born 17/9/1840 in Sholapur and baptized there 26/1/1841. John died 9/9/1841 in Sholapur, age 11 months, and was buried the following day. (3) Sarah Ann , born 19/6/1842 in Sholapur and baptized there 26/10/1842. Sarah Ann died 2/6/1919 in Madras, age given in the burial record as 78. Cause of death given as Kidney disease. Sarah Ann was buried 2/6/1919 in Cassimode Cemetery, St Mark's, Madras. On 27/4/1859, when Sarah Ann was age 16, she married Samuel HOLMES (1829-?), son of Charles HOLMES , at St Mary's Church, St Thomas Mount, Madras. (4) Emma Louisa , born 14/11/1844 in Sholapur and baptized there 20/4/1845. Emma Louisa died 15/10/1925 in Madras, age given in the burial record as 81. Cause of death given as Old Age. Emma Louisa  was buried 16/10/1925 in Kilpauk Cemetery, Madras. On 4/11/1863, when Emma Louisa was age 18, she married William Henry MIDDLETON (1835-?), a Constable of Marine Police and son of Arthur James MIDDLETON , in Emmanuel Chapel, South Blacktown, Madras. (5) George , born 26/12/1846 in Sholapur and baptized there 8/1/1847. George died 18/10/1848 in Madras, age given in the burial record as 1. Cause of death given as Diarrhoea. George was buried 22/9/1848 in St Thomas Mount, Bellary, Madras. (6) Jane , born 1/12/1848 in Madras and baptized 1/2/1849 at the Chaplain’s Station, Madras. Jane died 22/9/1849 in Madras, age given in the burial record as 9 months 22 days. Cause of death given as Fits from the spasmodic action of the glottis. Jane was buried 23/9/1849 in St Thomas Mount, Bellary, Madras. (7) Catherine , born 29/7/1850 in Bellary, Madras and baptized 3/10/1850 at The Chaplain's Station, Madras. Catherine died 28/9/1861 in St Thomas Mount, Bellary, age given on the burial record as 11 years 2 months. Cause of death given as Cholera. She was buried the same day with her sister Emily in St Mary's Burial Ground, St Thomas Mount, Madras. (8) Cecilia , born 28/7/1852 in Jaulnah, Madras and baptized there 6/101852. It’s not known whether Cecilia married or when she died. (9) Charles [ 3 ] . (10) Emily , born 21/6/1856 in Jaulnah, Madras and baptized there 15/10/1856. Emily died 23/9/1861 in St Thomas Mount, Bellary, age given on the burial record as 4 years 5 months. Cause of death given as Cholera. She was buried 28/9/1861 with her sister Catherine in St Mary's Burial Ground, St Thomas Mount, Madras. (11) Robert Edwin [ 4 ] . (12) Emily Jane , born 5/9/1862 in Blacktown, Madras and baptized 7/1/1863 in Emmanuel Church, Madras. Emily died 22/9/1905 in Bangalore, age 43, and was buried 23/9/1905 in St Johns, Bangalore. On 1/1/1879, when Emily Jane was age 16, she married Thomas Walker HIGGINS (1855-1911), an Assistant Station Master Madras Railway Company, son of William and Mary Ann HIGGINS , in Blacktown North, Madras.
