12.Link to census James Pett ROOTS [Parents]. Baptized 4/2/1844 at Meopham Parish Church, it is not known when James died. Occupation: Agricultural labourer.


In the quarter ending December 1872, when James was age 28, he married Mary Ann ADAMS. Mary Ann was born quarter ending June 1849 in Luddesdown. It is not known when she died.

They had the following children:


(1) William Henry [21]. (2) Matilda, born quarter ending March 1876 in Luddesdown. (3) Ada Elizabeth, born quarter ending September 1877 in Meopham. (4) Louisa Jane, born quarter ending June 1880 in Meopham. (5) James, born quarter ending September 1884 in Meopham.
(6) Reuben, born quarter ending March 1888 in Meopham. (7) Edward John, born quarter ending March 1892 in Meopham.


13.Link to census John ROOTS [Parents]. Baptized 30/10/1836 in Birling, John died quarter ending March 1904 in Luddesdown, age 67.

On 21/1/1860, when John was age 23, he married Susan ALLCHIN, in Birling. Born about 1835 in Trosley, Susan died in the quarter ending June 1870. There is no evidence that John & Susan had any children.

In the quarter ending September 1871, when John was age about 34, he married Harriett WIFFEN. Harriett was born about 1848 in Meopham.


They had the following children, all born Luddesdown:


Link to CWGC citation(1) William, born quarter ending June 1872, William died 26/9/1915 whilst serving in the 8th Battalion, Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment), age 43. William is remembered at the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. In the quarter ending June 1903, when William was age 30, he married Julia BISHOP in Strood. Julia was born 1870 & died quarter ending March 1910 in Strood, age 39.  (2) Thomas, born quarter ending December 1874. (3) Ellen, born quarter ending June 1879. (4) Alfred, born about 1880. (5) Mary, born about 1883. (6) Walter, born about 1886.


14.Link to census Thomas ROOTS [Parents]. Born quarter ending June 1847 in Meopham, Thomas died quarter ending September 1920 in Meopham, age 73.  Occupation: Agricultural  labourer.

In the quarter ending March 1868, when Thomas was age about 20, he married Rebecca LEONARD in North Aylesford, Kent. Rebecca was born about 1840 in Ash, Kent.

They had the following children:


(1) Rosa, born 15/10/1868 in Meopham. (2) William [22]. (3) Isabella, born quarter ending September 1871 in Luddesdown. (4) Frederick, born quarter ending June 1874 in Luddesdown.


15.Link to census William James ROOTS [Parents]. Born quarter ending March 1849 in Meopham, it is not known when William James died. Occupation: Bricklayer’s labourer; Woodcutter.

In the quarter ending December 1875, when William James was age 27, he married Mary Ann JOHNSON, daughter of William & Elizabeth JOHNSON. Mary Ann was born about 1852 in Meopham. It is not known when she died.

They had the following children, all born Meopham:


(1) Joseph William, born quarter ending June 1877. (2) John Henry, born quarter ending September 1878. (3) Frederick Thomas, born quarter ending March 1880. (4) Elizabeth Mary, born quarter ending December 1881. (5) Charles Edward, born quarter ending March 1884. (6) Bertie Ernest, born quarter ending March 1886. (7) Annie Sarah, born quarter ending September 1889. (8) Arthur Louis, born quarter ending September 1890. (9) Alfred James, born quarter ending September 1892. (10) Mabel Louisa, born quarter ending December 1893.
(11) Grace May, born quarter ending December 1895. (12) William Leslie, born quarter ending March 1899.


16.Link to census William Henry ROOTS [Parents]. Born about 1854 in Wrotham, it is not known when William Henry died. Occupation: Cement labourer.

In the quarter ending December 1877, when William Henry was age about 23, he married Elizabeth DURRANT in North Aylesford, Kent. Elizabeth was born about 1850 in Benenden.

They had the following children, all born Strood:


(1) Alfred Henry, born quarter ending December 1878. (2) Lilian Elizabeth, born quarter ending December 1880. (3) Violet Mabel, born quarter ending September 1884. (4) Matthew William, born quarter ending January 1886. (5) Edward George, born quarter ending September 1887. Edward George died quarter ending September 1893 age about 6.


17.Link to census Edgar Arthur ROOTS [Parents]. Born quarter ending September 1858 in Meopham, Edgar died quarter ending December 1934 in Westminster, age 76. Occupation: Cement labourer; Engineer’s labourer.

In the quarter ending December 1880, when Edgar was age 22, he married Frances PACKMAN. Frances was born about 1860 in Teynham, Kent.

They had the following children, both born Strood:


(1) Edward Arthur, born quarter ending March 1882. (2) Alice Frances, born quarter ending March 1885.
