Steve and Pauline Jones’ Family History
If you don’t know where you came from, you won’t know where you are going. You have to study your history. Gil Scott-Heron

The Roots Family of Luddesdown, Kent

The Roots family were from the area around the villages of Luddesdown and Meopham, Kent. There are several links by marriage to the other Kentish families in which we have an interest: Parris, Homewood, Luchford and Monk. They also proved to be intrepid travellers. Mary Ann Roots (1861-1941) married Richard Shoebridge Homewood (1857-1939) and emigrated to Fitchburg, Worcester Co., Massachusetts, USA in 1920. Her sister Clara (1879-?) married Horace John Luchford (1876-1916). They had emigrated to Fitchburg in 1912, following brother Frederic Alfred (1883-1942) who had made the same journey a year earlier. And James Roots (1896-?) moved to Australia (changing the spelling of the family name to Rootes along the way) to serve in the Australian navy from 1917 to 1920. We have much more information to share about the Roots family, over five generations, starting with Thomas Roots (1759-1836). Tap or click the icon to contact us .
