We are Steve & Pauline Jones from Yorkshire, England. Welcome to our family history website.

We’ve been researching our family history for around 20 years. There have been many surprises on the way - like finding a 17th century murderer and discovering war heroes (including a Victoria Cross holder). We’ve gained insights into tragedy through the many lives cut short due to diseases or accidents that simply wouldn’t happen today. But we have also encountered the hope and courage that we like to think our ancestors carried with them as they gave up their lives in England to emigrate for new, and hopefully better, lives abroad.

The Bradbury family lived and worked in the Saddleworth area of Yorkshire, moving to nearby Oldham and Aston-under-Lyne. Some moved further afield to the USA and India.

The Chapple family originated in west Dorset/east Devon and spread to London, Wales, Canada and New Zealand.

Another Yorkshire family - Howard - came from Holmfirth, moving north-west to several Lancashire towns and north-east to Leeds.

The Johnson family were firmly rooted in the east end of London where they were involved in the tobacco cutting and rolling trade.

The Jones family hailed from Shropshire and were a mobile bunch! From there to Staffordshire, onto Leicestershire, then Essex, south London and Hertfordshire.

Last but not least, the Parris family lived in Kent for centuries - and still do. Several emigrated to the USA - Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and California - to build new lives.

Our aim is to share information about these ancestors and provide a resource for others with a research interest in the family names featured here. The site includes information from census returns, military service and, of course, birth, marriage and death records. We hope you’ll find something of interest. If you have a connection to any individual or family featured here, or if you want to leave us your feedback we’d love to hear from you - contact us.

We take great care to ensure that the information is fully researched and accurate. The site has over 700 pages of information on around 6,300 individuals and 1800 families so errors or omissions may happen from time to time. For privacy reasons, we do not knowingly include any information about people who may still be alive. If we’ve got anything wrong, contact us.
